Why is Cybersecurity Important in Healthcare?

Several attack vectors in the healthcare industry can be compromised, primarily IoT devices for medical treatment. Additionally, hospital systems store personal information about patients and staff that can be compromised. HIPAA Security Rule, HIPAA Privacy Rule, and the HITECH Act all attempt to enforce regulation and protection of sensitive personal data and push organizations to invest in their cyber risk management.

In 2020, there were 239.4 million attempted attacks on healthcare companies, and 560 providers fell victim to these attacks.
