What is the NIST AI RMF?

The NIST AI Risk Management Framework (RMF) is a resource developed to help organizations manage the risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in a trustworthy and responsible manner. It offers a voluntary and adaptable approach for organizations of all sizes and sectors to address the unique challenges posed by AI systems. The AI RMF provides practical guidance and tools to increase the trustworthiness of AI systems throughout their lifecycle, emphasizing principles such as human centricity, social responsibility, and sustainability.

The AI RMF comprises two parts: Part 1 frames AI risks and identifies the intended audience, while Part 2 outlines specific functions – GOVERN, MAP, MEASURE, and MANAGE – to assist organizations in effectively managing AI risks. The AI RMF is designed to evolve alongside AI technologies and community feedback advancements.
